A Bigger Issue
Than At First Glance
The Truth Initiative highlights significant concerns regarding the rise of disposable e-cigarettes, emphasizing both public health and environmental issues:
Health and Youth Usage Concerns:
Disposable e-cigarettes have become increasingly popular, particularly among youth and young adults. Their affordability, ease of access, and appealing flavors contribute to this trend. This surge is alarming as it may lead to higher nicotine addiction rates among younger populations.
Environmental Impact and Waste:
The environmental ramifications are equally troubling. Disposable e-cigarettes contribute to significant waste, introducing plastics, nicotine salts, heavy metals, and lithium-ion batteries into the environment. These components can pollute waterways, soil, and harm wildlife. Moreover, the lack of proper disposal methods exacerbates the issue. Many users discard these devices improperly, leading to increased pollution and potential fire hazards due to the batteries.
In summary, the proliferation of disposable e-cigarettes raises critical health concerns, especially among youth, and poses substantial environmental threats due to the waste they generate.
Here you’ll find photos of discarded vapes littering the outdoors—polluting nature and slowly harming our planet.
Our Founder's Struggles
My name is Jared Sheen, and I’m the founder and one of the directors of Vape Waste Solutions Inc.
I started vaping when I was 14.
At the time, it felt like something harmless, made me "Look Cool" in the eyes of my friends, a way to fit in, maybe even a coping mechanism during my rougher years. Like a lot of people, I didn’t fully understand the long-term hold nicotine would have on me. Years later, I’m still trying to quit. Some days are better than others, and I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve said “this is the last time.”
Starting Vape Waste Solutions wasn’t about pretending I had all the answers. It was about creating something real. A place for people like me who are still figuring it out, trying to quit., to still do some good as we feed our addictions. I may still be working on quitting, but that doesn’t stop me from caring deeply about the harm nicotine products cause to our health, our environment, and our communities.
